Shangque the Black Dragon

Dongfang Qingcang was suddenly whisked away through a mysterious portal, pushed by an unseen force. The journey was disorienting, but eventually, it came to an end. Slowly, he opened his eyes, squinting against the bright sunlight. As his vision cleared, he took in his surroundings.

Qingcang abruptly realized he had been transported back to his world, specifically to the desolate battlefield of Cangyan Sea’s Xuanxu desert. He wore his formidable black battle armor adorned with menacing spikes. Memories flooded his mind as he recognized the familiar landscape. Here, he displayed his superior strength, mercilessly slaughtering two large armies before entering Lina’s world. The echoes of past violence resonated through his thoughts, and his once-innocent expression turned into a cold, distant gaze, hiding the inner turmoil he felt.

With a scowl forming on his strikingly handsome face, Qingcang sat up and observed the area. His eyes widened as a sinking feeling settled in his heart—he realized Lina was nowhere to be seen. Instinctively, his hand touched his forehead and let out a defeated sigh. His eyebrows furrowed as he reminisced about the last time he had seen the girl he vowed to protect. They had shared a passionate kiss inside the portal just before an unknown force tore her from his grasp.

Qingcang had made a promise to Lina that they would reunite, and he was determined to fulfill it. He knew he had to look for her as she was likely vulnerable and alone. ‘I will find her,’ he vowed internally. Renewed purpose filled his cold eyes as he scanned the familiar surroundings. The darkness in his heart, briefly subdued during their intimate moment, resurfaced with unsettling intensity, gripping his soul like a vengeful shadow. ‘I’ll kill anyone who dares to hinder me,’ he contemplated maliciously with a chilling resolve, his thoughts veering into a realm of ruthless determination.

While observing his surroundings, Qingcang noticed the absence of corpses on the ground. The dead Moon Tribe soldiers seemed to have gone up in smoke, leaving no trace behind. It dawned on him that he had been away from his world for longer than a mere twenty-four hours.

‘How is this possible?’ Qingcang pondered, feeling bewildered. ‘I’ve been to the human world, so I should’ve only been gone for a few minutes, maybe an hour at most. But that dimension was not Yunmeng Lake, the mortal realm of my world. Time likely operates differently there.’

The young girl lay still on the cold stone floor, wearing a blood-stained white summer dress. Her eyes were tightly closed as she groaned with discontent, mumbling, “Ugh… that… crazy dream last night… I was kissing that rascal.”

‘Kiss?’

The mention of the kiss piqued Lina’s curiosity. Her large, dark-brown eyes shot open with lightning speed as she realized the significance of her so-called dream. However, instead of focusing on her surroundings, she became absorbed in the puzzling shift in her relationship with the Moon Supreme. “WHAT?” she screamed at the top of her lungs, her voice echoing through the area. As she blinked rapidly, she gradually recognized that she was no longer in her home. ‘Where am I?’ she wondered, her gaze filled with awe.

The place seemed deserted, with a crystal-clear blue pond shimmering under soft light, delicate decorations adorning the area, and crystal pillars casting intricate shadows on the smooth marble floor.

Realization dawned on Lina as she grasped the weight of her current situation. “So, if I’m not at home… that means…” Her voice trailed off as she connected the dots, her eyes widening in disbelief. The truth she had been grappling with since waking up finally emerged. “THAT MEANS THAT KISS ACTUALLY HAPPENED!” she screamed even louder than before, her luscious lips trembling at the thought of exposing her vulnerability to an aggressive man she had never expected to reveal a gentle, romantic side. ‘I feel comfortable with him the way he was before… NOT WHEN HE IS THIS LOVEY-DOVEY!’ she screamed internally.

Lina’s breath quickened, and she felt like she was losing her mind. The girl who had always believed she was terrible at romance or being someone’s partner now found herself astonished by her skillfully passionate kiss with Qingcang. Not only that, she had passionately embraced his lips as if she had thirsted for them her whole life, pouring her deepest desires into those fleeting seconds before they separated.

“I’m so STUPID!” Lina exclaimed, her eyes still wide, as she realized her actions, giving in to the kiss from Dongfang Qingcang. “I… I only let that kiss happen because… I thought… it was a dream…” Her voice faltered, barely audible as her inner nerd emerged. Frustration overtook her, and she slapped both hands against her face. ‘No, slapping myself won’t work. I need to make sure I’m not dreaming now,’ she contemplated.

Raising her arm, Lina stared at the hard floor and closed her eyes, preparing herself for the impending pain. In a moment of recklessness, she forcefully slammed her hand against the unforgiving marble, letting out a piercing scream of agony similar to that of a little schoolgirl.

Feeling slightly foolish, Lina winced and muttered, “Ow… Why do I always go to such extremes? Then again, speaking of extremes, I married a non-human… Great…” She slapped her forehead in irritation, releasing an exasperated exclamation, “TERRIFIC, LINA! You’ve never been normal anyway! You’re crazy, I tell you. CRAZY! Crazy for KISSING him. I need to knock some sense into myself. We’re from different worlds and different species. He’s bad-tempered and war-driven, while I’m chill and love peace. Not to mention, humans and demons have been enemies since the beginning of our existence! If it weren’t for God’s protection and other beings distracting them in wars, they would have wiped us out!”

Lina quickly sat up straight, a crucial realization dawning upon her, causing her eyes to widen.

“Wait… I’m no longer human, am I?” Lina questioned herself. ‘I’ve become a demon because of Dongfang Qingcang,’ she thought, irritation creeping into her mind. ‘Once I get my hands on him, I’ll make him turn me back!’

Startled, Lina jolted, slapping her cheeks again as she realized it in shock.

‘Or maybe not… I hope he doesn’t find me; I can’t bear to look him in the eye after… THAT… thing we did,’ Lina pondered, an awkward grin forming on her lips as she scratched the back of her head. ‘Yeah, I should avoid him at all costs. What if he brings that up? I’d rather die and melt into nothingness than face him!’

Dongfang Qingcang stood tall, his posture elegant as he pondered his next move. His mission had taken an unexpected turn as he took responsibility for the ‘Silly Little Human’. The urgent needs of his Moon Tribe weighed heavily on his mind. However, he knew that his tribe could endure hardships far longer than his fragile wife, who would die instantly if he failed to find her.

With a furrowed brow and clenched fists, Qingcang’s thoughts raced. “I’m left with only one option now,” he muttered, his face filled with concern. Although his bond with Lina had been severed, he still had a faint feeling of her whereabouts. “Shangque!” he called out, his voice resonating as he looked at the gradually darkening sky, which responded with thunder.

In the vast expanse above, a massive black dragon emerged from a distance, its mighty roar reverberating through the air. Its scales, black as night, shimmered with iridescence while its elegant serpentine body extended gracefully, featuring short limbs armed with razor-sharp claws.

As the dragon approached Qingcang, emitting low rumbles, it transformed into a human figure. Lightning crackled around him as dark smoke dissipated, revealing a handsome man kneeling before the Moon Supreme. Dressed entirely in black, his attire resembled a thick, intricately braided fabric draped across his shoulders, extending slightly beyond. From a distance, it appeared like an ancient, flowing leather jacket flowing down to his feet like a robe. His black hair was tied in a high ponytail.

“My Lord!” Shangque exclaimed, kneeling before the Moon Supreme. His voice carried humility and unwavering loyalty. Shangque, the mighty and legendary Black Dragon, served as Qingcang’s loyal right-hand man. The dragons played a vital role in the Moon Tribe, residing in the depths of Cangyan Sea.

The Moon Supreme regarded Shangque, the esteemed lieutenant of the Moon Tribe, with an air of condescension. “Rise,” Qingcang commanded, his gaze icy and imposing.

“Yes!” Shangque swiftly and gracefully rose to his feet, his unwavering loyalty shining brightly as he faced the Moon Supreme, whom he had faithfully served for thousands of years.

Glancing down with a piercing, cold stare, the Moon Supreme slowly raised his armored hand, instilling fear in the loyal lieutenant. Shangque’s trembling lips and wide eyes hinted at his expectation of punishment. However, to his surprise, Qingcang revealed Lina’s smartphone, displaying her portrait on the lock screen. Memories rushed through Qingcang’s mind as he recalled the heartbreaking moment when he barely grasped her bag before she vanished into another portal. Within the bag, her phone and personal belongings remained, including the makeup she had worn during their last encounter. Shangque looked at the phone with curiosity and intrigue, as he had never encountered such an ‘artifact’ before. But it was the young girl in the picture, held by Qingcang, that truly captivated his interest.

“That’s…” Shangque murmured, his fascination sparked by the sight. “A girl?”

“She’s Dai Lina, the girl you must find in Cangyan Sea and Yunmeng Lake. Protect her with your life, and ensure she remains unharmed and unafraid,” Qingcang paused, narrowing his piercing eyes as he observed Shangque’s startled expression. “Or else, I’ll remove all your dragon scales and tendons.”

“Yes!” Shangque quickly raised his right arm at a precise ninety-degree angle, bringing his left hand to meet the elbow of his right arm. He then knelt on one knee and struck the ground with his right arm, saluting his Lord.

“I’ll venture into the Fairy Realm to search for her. Even if you haven’t found her by then, report to me in Shuiyuntian. Stay alert and hidden at all times. Now, go,” Qingcang commanded, his weariness evident as he grew impatient with Shangque’s astonished expression, which betrayed his thoughts. “Are you questioning my authority?” he inquired, his patience on the brink of exhaustion.

“I would never dare,” Shangque replied, bowing humbly. “I’m simply… surprised as to why Your Excellency wishes to find this girl. Who is she?” he asked, tinged with trepidation.

A swift motion of Qingcang’s wrist activated the metaphysical energies surrounding him, enveloping him in the attire he had worn in Lina’s world, a black-golden regal robe cascading to his ankles.

Lina sat on the cold marble floor, feeling lost in an unfamiliar place. Uncertainty clouded her thoughts, and she let out a heavy sigh, consumed by indecision. “I don’t know where I am,” she whispered, her voice filled with confusion. “But here I am, debating myself whether I should search for Pretty Eyes or not.” The weight of her internal struggle pressed down on her, and she immersed herself in contemplation, considering her options. “Maybe,” she pondered, “if I ask the locals here…” Her train of thought abruptly stopped as a realization hit her like a fierce blow to the gut. ‘NO! That’s a terrible idea!’ she exclaimed inwardly, firmly rejecting the thought.

The torn state of Dongfang Qingcang’s armor served as a stark reminder to Lina that he faced grave danger, even among his own tribe. She understood that if anyone in this unknown land discovered her connection to him, it could have dire consequences, perhaps even leading to her own death. Caution became her guiding principle as she longed to uncover the reasons behind his peril.

Anxiety flooded Lina’s mind. “Maybe,” she nervously considered, “I can help him clear his name.” Worry etched itself onto her face as she grappled with questions, her brow furrowing with deep concern. “Was he a fugitive?” she pondered aloud, seeking answers from within. “Who could be so cruel as to want the death of a good man?”

Lina’s inner turmoil matched her external expressions of unease. She could not fathom the dangers Qingcang had faced before being stranded in her world. She knew she had to protect him.

With unwavering determination, Lina silently vowed, “Don’t worry, Pretty Eyes. I’ll help you reclaim your freedom.” However, she realized the need to understand her current location before taking any further steps. The thought of finding herself in the realm of the fairies, a dangerous place for a member of the Moon Tribe like her, sent a shiver down her spine. Fear engulfed her, quickening her breath and causing her hands to tremble. The irony of her situation was not lost on her as she said in disbelief, “I can’t believe I’m now afraid of fairies after years of loving them in video games.”

As Lina remained frozen in fear, a commanding female voice suddenly boomed through the air, breaking the silence and startling her. “WHO GOES THERE?” The powerful voice reverberated, its echoes filling the area, sending a chill down Lina’s spine. It was a voice that demanded attention and obedience. “Who dares to trespass into the sacred ancient palace of Lord Dong Chonghua?” the voice continued, brimming with authority. “And who is afraid of us fairies?”

Lina was trapped in her worst nightmare, thrust into the realm she feared. Her voice trembled as she stammered softly, barely audible, “Us fairies? Oh no. I… I’m… in the dreaded fairyland.” Terror gripped her heart, and waves of panic crashed over her. ‘No… She’ll surely kill me,’ she thought, her breaths becoming shallow and rapid.

Summoning her courage, Lina lifted her gaze and saw a woman dressed in a long, white ethereal gown adorned with intricate lace. The woman’s arms were crossed, and her gaze fixated on the terrified and unfamiliar girl.

“Are you going to kill me?” Lina blurted out abruptly, unable to contain her fear. Instantly, regret washed over her. ‘Oh, God. What have I done? Why did I give her ideas of how to deal with me?’ she scolded herself, feeling foolish and vulnerable.

Taken aback by the unexpected question, the woman furrowed her brow in confusion. ‘Does this strange girl believe that I, the cleaning lady, would kill her? If she’s that frightened, she must not pose much of a threat. Should I spare her?’ the woman contemplated, carefully weighing her options and the fate of the bewildered intruder. “I won’t kill you,” she responded, conveying authority. “But, since you’re an intruder, I must report your presence. Lord Yunzhong will decide your fate.” With these words, she leaned down slightly, extending her hand towards Lina, who trembled uncontrollably.

Lina’s mind raced, consumed by the mention of Lord Yunzhong. The realization struck her like a bolt of lightning. ‘Lord Yunzhong… A lord? The ruler of the fairies? NO, he will kill me! I can’t allow her to take me!’ she thought, panic overpowering reason. In a moment of desperate instinct, dark wings shrouded in an inky mist emerged from her back, granting her teleportation ability. She vanished from the cleaner’s grasp, leaving behind only a trace of smoke.

“M-Moon Tribe! I must warn the others!” the cleaning lady exclaimed, trembling with fear and urgency. Her mind raced as she comprehended the potential threat that had infiltrated their realm.
