Make A Wish
Lina’s head felt dizzy as she stood before Qingcang, the otherworldly man who helped her by breaking her curses. She was afraid she might pass out, but she held on, determined to hear his answer. “So, will I no longer be attacked by the dark energies?”
Qingcang’s eyes glinted as he spoke. “I removed all black magic inside your auric field. If that specific talisman meant to kill you was imprinted inside this field, then yes.”
Lina’s heart raced, and she tried to steady herself as she asked Qingcang, “And what if it’s not? How would we deal with it?”
“If not, it’s inside the person who wants you dead, and I’d have to kill your enemy,” Qingcang replied, his voice calm and measured.
Lina’s mind was racing with confusion. ‘My enemy? I don’t remember offending someone to this extent to want me dead.’
Qingcang’s arms crossed over his chest as he spoke with authority, “From now on, don’t leave my sight, and don’t ask me to be somewhere you’re not. Obey me if you want to live. Understood?”
Lina was taken aback by Qingcang’s tone, and she thought, ‘Obey? He thinks he’s some royalty. Fine, it’s not as if I have a better alternative for surviving.’ She nodded in agreement, wondering what she had gotten herself into. “So, how do we find the wrongdoer?”
“I will find the culprit myself,” Qingcang replied confidently as he saw Lina pouting when he denied her involvement. “From what I’ve observed, the monsters don’t appear during daytime when the sun is highest. I won’t be around, but you’ll be safe during those hours.”
Lina was surprised to see Qingcang’s concern for her well-being. She raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly as she started to smile, grateful for his help. She felt warm and fuzzy inside. She was stunned to see an otherworldly man care so much about her well-being that even the closest people she thought were her friends did not compare to this level of devotion.
Qingcang observed Lina’s face, trying to decipher the sudden shift in her expression. He noticed the corners of her lips curling upwards into a grin, making him curious about its reason. “Why are you smiling?”
Lina’s expression grew even more mischievous, and she replied with a cheeky smile, “Nothing…”
Qingcang’s patience was running thin with Lina’s secretive behavior. He decided to press her for answers. “Tell me the tru—,” he began to say, but she erupted with an unexpected outburst before he could finish his sentence.
Lina’s eyes widened in alarm as she heard Qingcang was about to demand the truth. She knew she could not continue to hide her true feelings and would have to face the consequences of her words, so she made up an excuse and quickly interjected, “Oh no!” she exclaimed, lifting her head suddenly, “We have to go back! It’s a matter of life and death!”
Qingcang raised an eyebrow, puzzled by the sudden urgency in Lina’s voice. “Why?”
“I forgot about the milk I went to buy!” Lina replied in a panic, desperate to redirect the conversation away from her genuine emotions.
Qingcang was dumbfounded by Lina’s definition of an essential matter. He expressed irritation as he clenched his teeth and pressed his lips together. ‘Silly human!’ He thought to himself and could not help but let out a deep sigh. “Your stupidity makes you a danger to yourself,” he said firmly, crossing his arms over his chest.
Lina scowled at Qingcang’s comment and retorted, “Well, I’m alive now, aren’t I?”
Qingcang stood his ground; his arms still crossed over his chest. “Nonsense,” he said sternly. “Remember that you belong to me, and I won’t let you risk your life because it’s mine. Understand?”
Lina could not help but think, ‘Is this his way of showing affection? He sure is terrible at it, but it’s cute for trying.’ She looked up at Qingcang and sized him up before replying, “Fine. I plan on staying alive anyway.” She could feel his gaze piercing through her, making her uncomfortable.
Suddenly, Qingcang uncrossed his arms and walked towards Lina, standing too close for her comfort.
Lina stepped back and asked, “What are you doing?”
“I am taking you home,” Qingcang replied matter-of-factly, his voice low and demanding.
Lina felt weirded out by Qingcang’s close proximity. “How?”
“You’ll know,” Qingcang replied cryptically.
Lina attempted to protest, stuttering over her words. “W-Wait. Uhm, Pretty Eyes, WAIT!” But Qingcang impatiently grabbed her bridal style, and in a swift motion, he took off into the air at high speed, ignoring her babbling. She held his neck, afraid she would fall off, and yelled, “DONGFAAAAANG QINGCAAAAANG!” in his ear.
Qingcang demanded, “Stop yelling and stop blocking my view!” as Lina’s hands traveled to his eyes.
Lina continued to scream, “YOU’RE GOING TOO FAST; I’M ONLY A HUMAN, NOT A ROCKET!” completely ignoring Qingcang’s request.
“SILLY LITTLE HUMAN!” Qingcang yelled back as he grabbed Lina’s hands and forced them off his face.
“DON’T DO THAT, OR ELSE I’LL FALL, YOU SILLY LITTLE DEMON!”
He stopped flying high in the air at cloud level, where the stars looked the most beautiful and vibrant.
“What did you just call me? Silly Little Demon?”
Lina sighed in relief; her eyes relaxed as Qingcang waited for her answer, curious how she found out. “Hmph! From now on, I’ll call you a demon whenever I see fit. You’ve almost killed me now!” she said as she looked at him, still slightly annoyed by his actions but relieved that she was not going to fall to her death.
Qingcang’s initial expression of curiosity transformed into a slight sneer as he heard Lina’s words. ‘So, she still thinks I’m a fairy.’ He scoffed at the notion. However, as he turned his attention to his surroundings, his attention trailed off, interrupted by the sight of the awe-inspiring aurora borealis. The colorful lights danced in the dark blue sky, illuminating the night with a vibrant glow, and the stars shone brightly, adding to the celestial spectacle. It was a breathtaking sight that left him speechless.
Lina, on the other hand, was immersed in the surreal beauty of the moment, feeling like she had entered a fantastical world where imagination had no boundaries. She could not help but marvel at the beauty around her, as she had never had the opportunity to see this up close. She had never experienced anything like this before, and a deep sense of belonging and comfort filled her heart. “It’s so beautiful…” she whispered.
Qingcang observed Lina from the corner of his eye and sensed the overwhelming joy radiating from her, and saw her eyes glisten with a single tear as she watched the spectacle before her. “Are you so happy?” Her warm, fuzzy feelings managed to penetrate his heart’s cold, hard shell, thawing it.
“Of course. It’s so beautiful,” Lina replied with a broad smile, her heart swelling with joy. “Can we please watch this?” Her gaze met his with a heartwarming smile.
Qingcang gave a slight nod, unable to tear his gaze away from the breathtaking sky. “Mhm.” The aurora borealis danced around them, enveloping them in a magical aura, and the stars shone brilliantly, making the night sky come alive. “You like it?” His eyes softened.
For Lina, the experience was a dream come true, and her emotions overwhelmed her. Qingcang, too, was shaken by her happiness and felt his ice-cold heart melting with each passing moment.
As Qingcang held Lina in his arms, she felt safe and secure, admiring the beautiful display of space surrounding them. The moment felt surreal for her as she felt like she was in a fairytale. “I love it,” she said with a smile, her heart overflowing with gratitude. “You’re the best in the world, Dongfang Qingcang.”
Qingcang turned his face towards Lina, his expression deep in thought, as he heard her words. “The best in the world?”
Lina turned to face Qingcang, surprised to find him gazing intently at her. “I’ve never seen something as beautiful as this, and you let me see this,” Her eyes sparkling with wonder. “It’s so miraculous.”
Qingcang stood transfixed by Lina, not taking his eyes off her, watching her gaze out at the stunning environment around them. The sky was ablaze with twinkling stars, the vibrant hues of the northern lights dancing above, and a full moon shining brightly in the backdrop.
“Qingcang,” Lina began, intimately calling him by his first name, capturing his undivided attention, and looking down at her as he held her in his strong arms. “Thank you,” she said from the bottom of her heart, her voice overflowing with gratitude as she looked at him in the eyes, seeing the stars reflect their shine in his eyes.
Qingcang’s heart stood still. He felt something shift within him as the beat of his heart turned heavy, and for the first time, he felt ultimate joy from the depth of his shaken soul.
“Have you ever seen something so beautiful, Pretty Eyes?” Lina asked, her eyes lit up with wonder as she gazed at the sky above, glimpsing the green and pink lights in the sky up close as if she could touch them. She turned to face him to see why he did not reply, and she was surprised…
To see him… smile.
At the corners of his lips.
Qingcang was smiling at Lina and did not take his eyes off her, feeling her sense of warmth and comfort that enveloped her. The moon behind them and the aurora borealis surrounding them illuminated their faces as they locked eyes, a moment suspended in time. She could not help but smile back as he got caught that he was watching her the whole time when he was smiling.
Suddenly, Qingcang became aware of his smile. So, he flew higher to escape this awkward situation to distract Lina from seeing his smiling face, breaking the eye contact between them to uphold his reputation.
Lina could not help but feel a twinge of disappointment, “H-hey, I wasn’t done watching,” she protested, but her mood quickly changed as she spotted something she had not noticed before – beautiful streaks across the sky. She grabbed Qingcang’s chin and lifted it up, slightly squeezing his cheeks with her fingers, pointing to the breathtaking sight above. “M-M-M,” she stuttered. “Pretty Eyes, look! LOOK!” Her voice was filled with awe and wonder, admiring the miraculous and otherworldly view above them. “It’s a meteor shower!”
Qingcang and Lina floated together in the vast sky, watching the meteor shower as it painted the darkness with its breathtaking beauty. The celestial show was unlike anything she had ever witnessed, and she could not help but marvel at the sight. “This is amazing,” she breathed, watching the meteors rain down like falling diamonds, her eyes alight with excitement and enthusiasm, and her joy contagious.
Qingcang found himself captivated by Lina’s excitement and enthusiasm, and for tonight, he forgot about his mission and simply enjoyed the moment with her, experiencing the emotion of joy through her. His eyes widened as he watched the meteor shower rain from the heavens, adorning the vast sky like falling diamonds.
“Make a wish! Now, before it’s too late!” Lina exclaimed, tugging at Qingcang’s robe by his shoulder to get his attention. Qingcang focused more on the stars’ reflection shining in her eyes instead.
“Nonse—” Qingcang started, but Lina interrupted him.
“Come on! Just make a wish, any wish!” Lina urged Qingcang, her voice full of excitement, her eyes sparkling in the dark.
Qingcang sighed deeply, feeling a bit carried away by Lina’s enthusiasm. He slightly tilted his head, closed his eyes, and took his time, considering his options.
When Qingcang finished, he opened his eyes and saw Lina still praying in thought, her eyes closed and a serene expression on her face. She slowly opened her eyes and saw him looking down at her with his head rotated to face her, implying that he was looking at her the whole time she prayed. “Hey, you’re done already?” A smile lit up her face with her inner light.
Qingcang looked away from Lina’s eyes, gazing at the meteor shower above them, and nodded casually.
“I’ll tell you what I wished for.” Lina caught Qingcang’s attention, turning her gaze to him, who looked back at her again. “I wished for your happiness.”
Qingcang’s eyes softened as he bore into Lina’s, seeing deep into her soul. He felt his heart skip a beat at her selfless wish, and he felt a warmth spreading through his chest. He took in every detail of her face. The way the starlight illuminated her features made her look ethereal, as if she were a part of the meteor shower itself. Being with her was enough, and for once, he could let go of the weight of his responsibilities and simply be in the moment.
‘Thank you, Pretty Eyes, for everything. For saving me, for accompanying me, for being here with me. I feel at peace with you by my side. I can’t do anything except wish to see you truly happy,’ Lina thought as she smiled warmly at Qingcang, who kept gazing at her.
Lina leaned into Qingcang’s shoulder, and he instinctively wrapped his arm tighter around her. It felt natural, as if they had been doing this for years. They felt like time had slowed, as if the world was standing still just for them. They continued to watch the meteor shower, which painted the sky with its beauty. The stars above them were beautiful, but to him, the most beautiful ornament in the night sky was the smile she gave him.

Jianmin’s face was flushed with anger as she looked at her husband, Yichen. She could not believe what she was hearing. “Yichen, you cheating jerk!” Her voice echoed through the empty room. “Not only haven’t you acted like a husband to me JUST ONCE, but you want to divorce me? We just got married!”
Yichen stood before her, his arms crossed over his chest. His expression was calm, but his eyes betrayed a deep sadness. “We shouldn’t have been married, Jianmin,” he said softly, barely above a whisper. I don’t even know you, but the little I know about you is that we’re incompatible. You deserve to be with someone who will love you, but I can’t be that person. I’m sorry.”
Jianmin was taken aback by Yichen’s words. She had always known that their marriage was forced due to the black magic that she had done, but she had hoped that they would be able to make it work. However, he had given up on their relationship before it began.
“What do you mean you don’t know me?” Jianmin demanded, her voice rising in pitch. “We’ve been together for months! How can you say that you don’t know me?”
Jianmin felt a lump form in her throat. She had never considered it that way, but Yichen was right: They should not have married. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. Despite everything that had happened, she still cared for him, and the thought of losing him hurt more than she could bear.
