Her ‘Moon Fairy’ Servant

It was eleven o’clock in the morning, and Dongfang Qingcang had grown tired of Lina’s nonsense of keeping essential details only to herself. He needed to know what was wrong with her, or rather, himself. For thousands of years, he had never experienced such an enigma before and was determined to get to the bottom of it. He did not want to weep like a crybaby any longer.

With a determined look on his face, Qingcang barged into Lina’s room to find her sleeping soundly. She would not wake up even if all hell broke loose in her house. ‘This lazy woman,’ he thought with a sneer, arms crossed over his chest and unquestionably irritated. His eye traveled to explore her bed until one object caught his eye.

Qingcang noticed a picture frame near Lina’s hand and picked it up out of curiosity, staring at a photograph, something he had never seen before, having only seen drawings in his world.

The two people in the picture piqued Qingcang’s curiosity. Lina and Yichen were standing so close to each other that he could not help but wonder about the nature of their relationship. He was surprised to learn that Yichen had once been very close to Lina but now treated her as if she were nothing to him.

‘What does their relationship matter to me?’ Qingcang thought to himself, scoffing at the ridiculous idea of wasting any more time on it. He met Lina a few days ago, but he still had not progressed toward his return home. ‘Who she likes is none of my business, but her life is mine,’ he thought, sighing as he looked back at her, noticing a wet spot on her pillow near her wet eyes and her long eyelashes. ‘She cried herself to sleep,’ he thought, scowling as he spaced out. Now, it made sense to him why he had cried like a lunatic until midnight last night.

The reason to return home became much more critical to Qingcang now. Besides breaking the bond with Lina for his freedom, he had to find out why his You Jade Ring did not work to isolate his thoughts and emotions. And he had to prevent a civil war from forming among the Moon Tribe because he left at the most crucial time.

Qingcang knelt and gently poked Lina’s shoulder. “Wake up,” he said.

Lina moaned, “Go…”

Qingcang sighed as he scowled impatiently at Lina and said, “Hmph. Never in my life have I seen anyone as lazy as you, who sleeps more than ten hours a day and gets out of bed at noon.”

Lina scoffed and shot up her eyes, seeing that annoying man’s face up close, watching her every move. “You!” she exclaimed with a scowl, rubbing her tired eyes. “Can’t you see that I don’t feel well?”

Qingcang looked dangerously at Lina with piercing eyes. “Silly Little Human, you have no idea what your idleness is doing,” he sneered and grabbed her sheets, about to pull them to uncover her and yank her out of bed, whether she liked it or not. “Now, get up, or I will force you to do my bidding. Got it?” he yapped.

“F-force me?” Lina asked in disbelief. She was stunned that Qingcang, the man who had opened up to her slightly, was being such a jerk suddenly and violating her when she was not feeling well.

“That’s right,” Qingcang sneered.

‘This guy… I don’t care if he’s my guest or has saved me a few times. He needs to be put in his place this instant!’ Lina scowled at Qingcang, gritting her teeth, taking him aback by her sudden shift in behavior. “I want you to get your act together, starting right now. Got it?” she told him, looking fearlessly into his eyes. ‘I shouldn’t give in. He should learn to earn his right to be in my house. I’m not his maid,’ she thought, taunting.

‘How dare she make demands?’ Qingcang thought, astonished by Lina’s boldness. Never in his life had he ever seen anyone not tremble at his feet, let alone steer him like a servant. His scowl intensified; he would not give in; he was born a prince, now a king. He would not serve others; instead, others should serve him. “Silly Little Human, I don’t have time for your audacity. Get up and open the portal!” He took her hand and lifted her to sit down.

Qingcang suddenly felt a sharp pain in his lower abdomen. He groaned silently, his face contorting in discomfort.

“I’m in pain! How can you expect me to open a stupid portal when I have no powers? You’re being a jerk…”

Panic washed over Qingcang as he realized what was happening. ‘Not this again,’ he thought, his heart racing. He knew what this meant; the same thing had happened before. Tears began to form in his eyes. ‘This crybaby…’

“You’re such a jerk!” Tears streamed down her face.

“Don’t cry,” Qingcang murmured. He turned his back to Lina as tears flowed down his face. “Stop crying.”

But Lina could not stop the tears, and her voice cracked. “This week, I’ve been through hell. I’ve been betrayed, belittled by two people, and almost lost my life twice. Last night, I cried my heart out, and now my belly hurts. Do you have any idea what I’m going through?”

Qingcang, still with his back facing Lina, wiped his tears aggressively with his robe’s wide, black sleeves, muttering silently under his breath, “I wish I didn’t know.” He replied, “Yes, I do,” as he turned to meet her pitiful gaze.

Lina scoffed and pouted, asking Qingcang in disbelief, “How would you know?”

“You want to get better quickly, am I right?”

“Yes, but I won’t get better soon,” Lina replied, her voice laced with pain. “Especially tomorrow, which is the most painful day for me.”

Lina’s words had sent chills down Qingcang’s spine and alarmed him. His patience was wearing thin as her words made him realize he might have to endure excruciating pain again. He had gone through it before and could tolerate it, but the thought of crying like a maniac irked him. He had a reputation to uphold, and such a display of weakness was not an option.

Additionally, Qingcang did not know how time worked in this world, and while he was away if civil wars might have broken out in his world, and his people might even be extinct by now. He knew he had to return and destroy the Fairy Realm to give glory to the Moon Tribe.

“When will you get better? Two days? Three days? Should I wait for you for four days or half a century?” Qingcang’s impatience grew with each word he spoke, and his irritation was palpable.

Lina stammered nervously in response. “I-I’ve never been this weak before while experiencing my current issue. I-I need at least a full week to heal, and only then can I even think about how to help you with the portal. I won’t be stable until t-then.”

Qingcang rolled his eyes and sighed deeply. He had no faith in Lina’s ability to help him. ‘Forget it; I can’t count on a giddy girl to do anything,’ he thought as he walked out of her room.

Qingcang’s sudden shift in behavior left Lina stunned.

“I’ll do it myself. It’s just a portal,” Qingcang muttered to himself, sneering at the thought of relying on Lina.

Determined to open the portal back to his world, Qingcang stood on top of a mountain, away from prying eyes, where he would not be disturbed. He held his hand firmly in a position to open the portal that would lead him back to his world.

Qingcang was highly talented and far superior to anyone in his world. But despite his skills, he could not open that specific portal where he had met Lina for the first time and could only create its shape.

It dawned on Qingcang that her energy might be necessary to unlock it. However, she felt weak, and he could not rely on her.

“Perhaps she feels weaker than expected because the portal consumed her energy. Even I felt slightly drained after getting out of there,” Qingcang murmured deep in thought. He knew that she would take much longer to heal if she did not take care of herself, and he made a mental note to remind her to do so when he returned to her.

Dongfang Qingcang burst into Lina’s bedroom again. The sight that greeted him was of her curled up in her blankets, deep in slumber. Without hesitation, he strode over to her bed and grasped her hand, giving it a firm squeeze. She stirred, letting out a frightened noise.

“Pretty Eyes! What are you doing?” Lina grumbled, rubbing at her eyes and tugging her hand away from Qingcang’s grip.

“Go and see a doctor,” Qingcang commanded, his tone stern and no-nonsense as he scowled.

Lina rolled her eyes, already feeling annoyed with Qingcang’s persistent nagging. “The doctor? They don’t treat this—”

“If you’re injured, then what are doctors for?” Qingcang retorted impatiently, his frustration mounting with each passing second.

Lina’s face flushed with embarrassment as she realized Qingcang had no idea what was happening. He did not even know about the monthly cycle, let alone that the pain she was experiencing was normal. ‘Oh my God, how do I tell him to back off and let me be?’ she thought. Steeling herself, she straightened her back and looked him in the eye. “It’s not for something as trivial as this,” she replied firmly.

Qingcang’s eyes widened with shock. “Is this something trivial? You could die if you keep this up. I order you to stop neglecting yourself.”

Lina’s eyes lit up, and she could not help but smile before lowering her gaze. ‘He thinks this will kill me? He’s so… naive, but it’s cute that he’s so… ‘caring,’ if I can even call it that.’

Qingcang noticed Lina’s eyes lighting up with amusement, and he tilted his head in confusion. “What is it?”

Lina glanced at Qingcang. “Look, I appreciate that you want me to improve. But believe me, no doctor will treat this. “I have to do it myself, but right now, I just don’t feel like doing anything, okay?”

“How do you know how to treat it?”

‘If I troll him, will he leave me alone?’ Lina stifled a laugh that was on the verge of escaping. “I, uh… I did buy a book about all the treatments for the human body since I live alone, but I’ve never found the time to read it.”

Qingcang glared at Lina. “Then read it now and treat yourself. I have no time to wait, got it?” He turned to walk away, eager to be done with this conversation.

Lina scowled, her eyes narrowing in anger. She had had enough of his demands and would give him a piece of her mind for annoying her so much. “Dongfang Qingcang, stop walking right now!” she ordered.

Initially, Qingcang intended to walk away but found out he could not. He blinked, stupefied at the sudden force that held his body. ‘Wh-What? I can’t move!’

“If you’re so impatient, YOU read the whole book instead! Count the words, too,” Lina commanded.

“You dare? I’m about to have enough of y—” His eyes bulged as he had teleported away from her room.

~*~

Qingcang appeared in Lina’s mini library, and his arrival was accompanied by a dark aura shaped like wings, which dissipated as he found himself inside the study. “What just happened? How did I end up here?” he muttered to himself incredulously. He felt like something was manipulating him, forcing him to engage in activities against his will. Panic set in as he tried to figure out what was going on. ‘What’s happening? Why is my hand moving on its own?’

This was just ridiculous.

Qingcang was annoyed and frustrated with the situation. He suspected that Lina had something to do with his predicament. “What kind of black magic has she done on me?” He looked around the study room. He could not help but notice the shelves and stacks of textbooks and felt like he was walking on needles. He gritted his teeth in anger, and a vein on his forehead became visible as wrath boiled over. “That girl… I’m not her ‘Moon Fairy’ servant! K-k-k… Gah!” he grunted, trying to fight the force controlling him. However, his efforts were futile.

Ridiculous!

Qingcang tried to find a way to resolve the situation. “There must be books lying around somewhere on how to fix that human.” He scanned the study room for valuable resources. He noticed a bookcase in the corner of the room and approached it. As he approached it, he began to sort through the books on the shelves, his fingers brushing over the spines of various books, including fiction, cooking, and study books about human anatomy. “Is this the book?” He reached for the books, his hand forced to pick up a thick, weighty volume, and he could not help but sneer at the sight of it.

Qingcang opened the book, and as he flipped through the pages, his expression changed from bitterness to emptiness, and his jaw dropped in surprise. The letters on the pages were unlike any he had ever seen, and the text looked foreign to him, making it difficult to decipher the words.

Qingcang’s face contorted with anger, his menacing eyes narrowing into slits. He could feel his pulse quickening and his breathing becoming heavier with each passing moment. “How ridiculous! Do I have to transliterate and read for her word for word?” He growled.

The idea of being bound to a pesky human and catering to her every need drove Qingcang to the brink of insanity. He thinned his lips, clenching them in bitterness, and aggressively dropped the thick book. The heavy book made a loud sound as it hit the marble floor, causing the nearby desk to vibrate slightly.

“No way!” But even as he spoke those words, a hidden force pushed him to pick up the book again, and he sat on a chair behind the desk and opened the book.

~*~

Two hours had passed, and Qingcang had only read a quarter of the book, his eyes scanning the pages with growing frustration. He was bored to death reading the thick book about treating the human body, and he had no choice but to convert it with the help of a technique he had mastered as a kid to decipher any text. Never in his life did he think he needed to use it, until now. “I can’t believe I’m doing this.”

Qingcang gritted his teeth in frustration, realizing he had to use his spiritual energy to understand the text. He sighed deeply and buried his face in his hand, annoyed as he thought bitterly, ‘She turned me into a servant.’

Qingcang was about to lose his mind as he had to convert the text word for word, memorize it, and make sense of it all. He was not a doctor, but he was about to become one due to that infuriating human. He was forced to learn everything about the human body, from start to finish, including modern terminologies he had never heard of before. He could not skip ahead because the troublesome girl had commanded that he read the whole book.

~*~

After eight grueling hours of deciphering the text, Dongfang Qingcang felt like his brain was imploding. He had pored over every single word to absorb everything there was to know about human anatomy and the art of healing. His head throbbed, and his eyes felt like they were on fire. To make matters worse, he had been forced to endure Lina’s stomach ache and her fluctuating emotions during the entire reading process. It was a tiring experience that had tested his patience and mental fortitude to the limit.

As an avid reader, Qingcang usually appreciated the opportunity to delve into books. However, deciphering and reading about the human body felt like torture. But alas, he was at her mercy, and there was no escaping his current predicament. Boredom began to creep in slowly but surely, adding to his growing frustration.

Just as Qingcang was about to stand up and stretch his arms to ease his fatigue, he could not move. “What now?”

As Qingcang looked down, he returned to the first page and was surprised to see what he was doing.

“One. Two. Th-three. F-four-r-r,” Qingcang counted, his voice faltering with each passing number. He felt like he was losing his mind, trapped in a never-ending cycle of monotony and tedium.

Then he remembered her sentence: “Count the words, too.”

Dongfang Qingcang found himself stuck counting every word in the thick book, his eyes scanning over the tiny letters with robotic precision. It was mind-numbing work, and he soon realized that he had been counting for hours without even realizing it.

This was just ridiculous…

“SILLY LITTLE HUMAN!” Dongfang Qingcang exploded, his frustration boiling over as he slammed the desk with a thud.

~*~

It was midnight, and Dongfang Qingcang had been sitting in the same spot for hours, his eyes glued to the pages of the thick book before him. He was hungry and exhausted, his eyes growing tired and heavy from the tedious task of counting the words. The torture was unbearable, and he could feel his patience wearing thin. He would have burned the whole world down in frustration if he had not been bound and forced to waste his time.

Taking a deep breath, Qingcang tried to refocus his attention on the book. But it was difficult to concentrate on each letter, let alone a single word. He had been bored out of his mind for the entire day and had already counted about ninety percent of the book. The monotony was killing him.

‘How much longer do I have to count?’ Qingcang felt miserable. So, he gritted his teeth and continued to count, his eyes fixed on the book before him.

“41.885.”

‘Once the portal reappears,

“41.886.”

and my bond is broken,

“41.887.”

I’ll kill the damn Silly Little Human,

“41.888.”

destroy the Fairy Realm,

“41.889.”

burn the fairies,

“41.890.”

break the bones of Lord Yunzhong,

“41.891.”

and soak them in liquor.’

Qingcang thought to himself with a vicious grin when he thought of the sweet thoughts of payback as he continued to count. He relished the idea of exacting revenge on those who had put him in this situation. The thought of their suffering brought him some solace as he continued to count, muttering the numbers under his breath. “Forty-one thousand, eight hundred and ninety-two,” he said aloud, his voice barely above a whisper. “Forty-one thousand, eight hundred and ninety-three.” His voice grew fainter with each passing second.
