How To Make Her Happy
The next day at ten o’clock in the morning, Lina woke up and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. The kitchen was brightly lit and well-equipped with all the necessary utensils and appliances. She hummed a tune as she took the eggs, bread, and plant-based proteins from the fridge, preparing to make Qingcang and herself a hearty breakfast. As she moved around the kitchen, she noticed the door leading to her garden, a serene oasis with colorful flowers and lush greenery. She smiled to herself, grateful for the peaceful escape that her garden provided.
As she finished cooking the food, she set the table outside, admiring the beautiful view while yawning. Just as she was about to take the frying pan, she saw Qingcang standing in the kitchen, leaning against the wall, observing her every move. He had his arms crossed over his chest and a pensive expression.
‘This lazy, Silly Little Human has slept for over ten hours but is still sleepy… Forget it; she’s not avoiding me anymore and is willing to obey me now,’ Qingcang thought, still perplexed about why Lina had been so nervous around him last night.
Suddenly, Lina felt a sharp pain in her hand and screamed, “Ahhh!” She looked down to see the frying pan had burned her hand.
Qingcang looked at his palm and noticed a burn mark developing. He closed his eyes in annoyance and sighed deeply, feeling irritated with Lina’s clumsiness.
“It hurts…” Lina muttered, clutching her hand and trying to alleviate the pain with cold water from the sink. However, the pain was excruciating, and she winced in agony as the cold water was not helping her.
Qingcang observed Lina with a mixture of annoyance and slight concern in his eyes. ‘It seems that it’s up to me to fix this,’ he thought, letting out a deep sigh before approaching her.
Just then, Qingcang appeared beside Lina, a tiny hint of concern etched on his features. She felt surprised when he gently held her wrist and brought her palm close to his mouth.
“What are you doing?” Lina asked as she looked at Qingcang curiously.
“Don’t hold it with your hands anymore. You’re clumsy, indeed,” Qingcang said firmly, looking directly into Lina’s eyes.
Lina did not argue with Qingcang, knowing that he was right. Her mind had been preoccupied lately, and she had been more absentminded than usual. She sighed deeply, feeling grateful for his care and concern.
Lina was taken aback as Qingcang gathered his breath and blew cold air onto her hand. She could feel the chill of his breath on her skin, and the act made her smile and felt flattered by his kindness. Immediately, the pain in her hand disappeared, and she was amazed at the power of his breath to stop the pain.
Qingcang finished blowing on Lina’s hand and lifted his eyes to meet hers. “Better?” he asked softly, searching for clues to speed up her recovery.
Lina playfully nodded and warmly smiled at Qingcang. “Yes, thank you!” she exclaimed cheerfully. However, she was surprised that he continued holding her wrist as if checking on her health.
‘Her spiritual strength has increased,’ Qingcang thought, eyeing Lina’s hand as he held it.
Lina, who had no idea what Qingcang was doing, slowly released his hand and wanted to return to the garden to set the breakfast she had prepared on the table for two.
As Lina reached for the frying pan, Qingcang quickly intervened. “Don’t grab it,” he ordered. “I’ll bring it myself. From now on, you’re not allowed to hurt yourself.”
Lina was surprised and blinked a few times. ‘Are my ears deceiving me, or is he treating me better?’ she thought, baffled. She continued with bringing the food to the backyard.
Qingcang observed Lina’s energy, noting the marked improvement in her spiritual strength when she experienced joy. “So, the secret to her spiritual recovery is not taking care of her body, but her heart instead?” he wondered, lost in thought. “How can I make her happy?” he muttered, curious for the answers.
Lina stood amidst the vibrant garden, taking in the vivid colors of the surrounding flowers as they swayed gently in the morning breeze. The sun began peering over the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow upon the lush greenery. She closed her eyes, inhaling the sweet scent of the garden deeply, feeling a sense of calm and contentment wash over her.
Suddenly, without warning, Qingcang teleported before Lina in a swirl of darkness, clasping the frying pan that burned her hand earlier, which he promptly set down on the nearby table. She was startled by his sudden appearance but quickly regained her composure as he took a seat.
As they sat down and began to eat, Lina savored the delicious tastes and flavors that filled her mouth. “Is it good?” she inquired with a smile before she took a bite from her bread and eggs, her voice soft and pleasant.
“Mhm,” Qingcang replied as a ‘yes’, nodding in approval.
Lina took a sip of her freshly squeezed orange juice and then turned to Qingcang with a look of curiosity on her face. “Pretty Eyes, can I ask you a question?” she asked intimately.
Qingcang paused momentarily, his silverware resting on his plate, and looked at Lina in the eyes. “Ask away,” he replied softly.
Lina leaned forward, her eyes shining with a genuine interest. “What’s your home like?” she asked, her voice filled with curiosity and wonder.
Qingcang studied Lina, sensing the sincerity in her question. “Why do you ask?” he inquired, surprised by her eagerness to know more about his background.
“I’m interested in the world that made you the person you are right now,” Lina explained, her gaze never leaving Qingcang’s as he looked on with a slightly tilted head. “Besides, you always seem in such a hurry to leave. I sometimes wonder how amazing that world might be.”
Qingcang hesitated momentarily, his brown eyes fixed on Lina’s face as if he was deciding whether to tell her. He sighed deeply and averted his gaze from her curious eyes before speaking. “There is always a never-ending conflict between two tribes, and they have been enemies since ancient times,” he said casually, trying to make her understand that he needed to go there to win that war once and for all.
Lina’s eyes widened with worry, and she leaned closer to Qingcang as if trying to comfort him. “Then why do you want to leave this semi-peaceful place and return?” she asked softly. “Will you never come back once you leave?”
Qingcang’s eyebrows furrowed slightly as he regarded Lina. “Didn’t you always want me to leave?” he asked abruptly, catching her off guard.
Lina’s heart skipped a beat, and she looked away from Qingcang’s intense gaze. “I… guess so…” she hesitantly questioned herself internally. “But after everything we’ve been through, I wouldn’t mind if you stayed here and lived a peaceful life.”
Qingcang’s tilted head straightened, and he regarded Lina with a thoughtful expression. “Why?” he asked, his voice soft.
Lina met Qingcang’s gaze with a mix of determination and vulnerability. “You’ve been so kind to me,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Sometimes I want to make things easier for you so you won’t miss your home as much. But it seems you still want to return, no matter how chaotic. That means your home is worth it.” She looked around, taking in the beauty of her garden with its colorful flowers and neatly trimmed hedges.
Qingcang lowered his eyes in thought, his long dark hair falling on his back. The silence between them was filled with birds chirping in the distance and the gentle rustling of leaves.
Qingcang was tapping his finger impatiently on the armrest of his chair as he sat. He had a question to ask Lina and could not wait any longer. He faced her, and with indifference, he asked, “What do you like?”
Lina looked up, a little taken aback by the sudden question. She tilted her head, trying to understand what Qingcang was getting at. “Huh? What do I like?” she repeated, her brow furrowed.
Qingcang nodded, still tapping his finger on the armrest. “That’s right. What do you like, and what do you want? I’ll give you whatever you want,” he reiterated his question, his voice calm and collected.
Lina looked at Qingcang, feeling amused and intrigued by his words. She wondered what he was up to. ‘Is he for real? Does he want to make me happy?’ she thought, smiling. ‘Oh, this should be fun!’
Qingcang noticed Lina’s playful grin and was caught off guard. “Why are you smiling?” he asked as he already felt he would regret his question.
Lina’s lips curled into a wide grin, and she chuckled softly. “Nothing,” she said as her eyes sparkled with playfulness as she fixed her gaze on Qingcang. “I want your obedience,” she said, flashing a cheesy smile that made him uneasy.
Qingcang furrowed his brows, taken aback by Lina’s request, and tried deciphering her cryptic words. He knew he had made a mistake by asking her what she liked, and now he was paying the price. He could feel his annoyance building up as he wondered what she had in mind.
Qingcang stared at her blankly, not expecting her to ask something impossible of him. “Except this one,” he said with a hint of irritation.
Her smile did not falter. In fact, it widened, and her eyes lit up with a mischievous glint. “Then, Moon Supreme, just do some chores around the house,” she suggested, her tone playful.
Qingcang’s irritation flared up at the suggestion. He was the king of kings, the Moon Supreme, and the most powerful living being in the three realms. Nobody dared to tell him what to do, let alone ask him to do chores. ‘I knew she wanted me to be her servant,’ he thought, rolling his eyes at how she never stopped being so bold to him. He scoffed in disbelief, unable to contain his frustration. “Not this one, too,” he replied curtly, about to lose his patience.
Her expression turned severe momentarily, but she quickly regained her composure and looked at Qingcang with a challenging glint. “Why? It’s pretty easy, and I can teach you—” she said before being cut off by his irritated reply.
Qingcang’s frustration was noticeable as he expressed his discontent with her. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself as he said, “Stop…”
She fell silent, wondering if her playful banter had gone too far. She was trying to lighten the mood and make a connection with Qingcang, but it seemed like she had pushed him over the edge.
Lina’s statement took Qingcang aback, and he almost snapped at her for her audacity. “I asked you what you like and want. Why are you talking about turning me into your servant?” he inquired, his tone betraying his annoyance.
Lina blinked, taken aback by Qingcang’s reaction. She realized she had made a mistake and sighed deeply, trying to gather her thoughts. His aristocratic demeanor made him seem unapproachable, and she had to choose her words carefully. She knew he could not easily comply with becoming her perfect obedient housemate, and it was clear that he was uncomfortable with the idea of doing chores. “Well then, I’m okay with you being my friend,” she replied, hoping to diffuse the tension.
Surprised by Lina’s response, Qingcang raised an eyebrow and asked, “Your friend?”
Lina nodded, looking directly at Qingcang. “Yes, that’s right. Let’s hang out and get to know each other. After all, we’re going to be temporarily married and living together,” she said, her voice soft and gentle.
Lina’s proposal took Qingcang aback. He had expected her to be demanding and challenging, but her willingness to be friends caught him off guard. “So that’s why you asked me about my home,” he muttered. “You wanted to become my friend.”
Lina nodded. A broad smile crept onto her face, happy she had managed to break through Qingcang’s defenses. “Yes, that’s right. I want to get to know you better,” she said, her voice infused with warmth and enthusiasm, hoping they could build a strong friendship beyond their temporary marriage.
Qingcang’s face remained mysterious; his thoughts were cloaked in silence.
Lina noticed Qingcang’s hesitation and furrowed her brow with concern. “Don’t you want to be my friend?” she asked, tilting her head to one side as she peered at him.
Their eyes met, and Qingcang cleared his throat, breaking the silence. “Alright. How can I make you happy? Just by being with you?” he asked firmly, his voice low and measured.
Lina’s heart fluttered with excitement at the prospect of spending more time with her enigmatic companion. ‘I knew he had a crush on me and wanted to make me happy! This is too interesting,’ she thought as her face lit up, a broad smile spreading. “Let’s forget about the culprit for a day and go to the amusement park,” she suggested, her tone playful and inviting. “I love going there, and it’s not too crowded today. What do you say?”
“The amusement park?” Qingcang asked as he raised an eyebrow in surprise at the suggestion. He did not even know what an amusement park was. However, he quickly dismissed the thought. ‘Forget it. The sooner I make her happy, the quicker I can kill Yunzhong,’ he thought. With a nod, he agreed, “When should we leave?”
“In a few minutes, my teammates will come over to discuss my strategy for tomorrow’s competition,” Lina responded eagerly. She had been working on her plan for the past few days, and tomorrow was the big day for her Esports career. She could not wait to compete in the massive stadium and come out on top. “It won’t take more than an hour. I’ll be free after that,” she added, her eyes shining with anticipation to enjoy her time with her new friend.
Lina’s peaceful morning was abruptly interrupted by the sound of the doorbell, causing her heart to race in surprise.
‘My teammates are fifteen minutes too early,’ she thought as she quickly approached the video intercom, hoping to glimpse the unexpected visitor. As she saw the image of a familiar face, a sudden feeling of unease crept up inside her. “It’s Jianmin!” she exclaimed, her voice trembling with fear at the tense situation.
Qingcang, sitting on the chair, overheard Lina’s panicked voice as she hurried back to him. He scowled fiercely at the thought of seeing that ‘disgusting mutt’ again, and the mere mention of Jianmin’s name was enough to irritate him.
