Home Sweet Home

Lina was noticeably excited as she eagerly showed Dongfang Qingcang a photo of a building on her phone. “Pretty Eyes, look! I found this place and called them,” she exclaimed with a playful grin, her eyes sparkling enthusiastically.

Qingcang, who came from another world and had never seen a phone before, looked at it curiously. ‘This odd artifact… can locate things?’

Lina’s words came out in a rush as she spoke, her excitement barely contained. “It is the only place that can arrange a wedding quickly. I set a date, and the fastest they can arrange is in a week.”

However, Qingcang’s response was different from what Lina had hoped for. “We can’t wait for a week,” he replied, tilting his head, his tone firm and resolute.

Lina’s heart sank at Qingcang’s words. She hoped he would agree to wait for a week before embarking on their mission. She stuttered, feeling hopeless. “B-but…” she began to say, but he cut her off.

“I told you that I can only protect you if you’re in my sight,” Qingcang continued wearily, his exhaustion obvious in his voice.

Noticing the fatigue in Qingcang’s tone, Lina’s concern for him grew, feeling a twinge of guilt at the weariness in his voice. She knew that he had been constantly by her side to keep her safe, and she could not bear to see him suffer any longer. ‘This poor guy hasn’t slept since he came into my world and even watched me sleep. I can’t torture him like this; he needs to rest as soon as possible,’ she thought as she turned to face him.

Qingcang looked utterly exhausted, his eyes were bloodshot, and his shoulders drooped, hinting at his burden. Lina’s heart went out to him, and she wanted to do something to soothe his pain.

Lina summoned her courage and called out to Qingcang. “Moon Supreme,” she said, her voice gentle and soothing.

Qingcang’s tired eyes flicked up to Lina’s, his expression guarded. “What?”

Lina took a deep breath and looked at Qingcang earnestly. “Can you trust me?”

Qingcang was taken aback by Lina’s question. He had never been one to trust anyone but himself, yet something in her gaze made him curious. “With what?” His scowl softened a fraction.

“I want to go home and leave this hotel,” Lina explained gently, offering a kind gesture to Qingcang. She placed her hand on his shoulder, and he rotated his head; his eyes followed her hand before she continued to speak, “You need to rest. You can sleep in my bed because you haven’t slept in days.” He opened his mouth to protest, but she raised her hand to silence him and continued providing more information, “Please, let me help you. I want you to trust that I’ll keep watch and warn you if I see any danger. I promise I’ll stay in the same room and silently work on my own tasks.”

‘Is she the one offering me protection now?’ Qingcang twitched an eyebrow and spaced out in his thoughts. He was intrigued by Lina’s compassion but quickly pushed it aside. “Your kindness is what’s going to kill you, not the dark beings,” he sneered. He could not believe that he almost felt her sincerity melt his cold, steel defenses.

Lina placed her hands on her hip and thought, ‘Again, with the tough guy act!’ She scowled at Qingcang. “Aren’t you tired?”

Qingcang gave Lina a “Hmph” and turned away, walking towards the massive pile of gold bars that he had given her as her dowry. He touched the stack, his fingers caressing the cold metal. She watched him, intrigued by his actions. He turned his head to her. “Be quick then.” With that, he disappeared into thin air with the gold bars, teleporting away with his aura dissipating before her, leaving her dumbfounded.

“That guy…” Lina whispered, blinking. “I’ll take it as a yes then. Hmph.”

Lina parked her purple car in the driveway and stepped out, taking a deep breath of the cool, fresh air. She looked around her sprawling estate, taking in her lush gardens and grand architecture. However, her eyes could not locate Dongfang Qingcang, the man she expected to see. Her brow furrowed in confusion as she whispered to herself, “Strange. Where is he?” Suddenly, an idea hit her, and she whispered, “Could it be?”

Lina made her way toward the grand staircase, her heels clicking against the polished marble floor. As she walked down the hallway, she noticed that the door to her bedroom was partially open. Her curiosity was piqued, and she felt her heart race as she wondered if Qingcang was inside.

Lina approached the door cautiously, peering inside the room. At first, all she saw was the dim light filtering through the edges of the curtain-covered windows and the outline of the furniture. But then, her gaze fell upon a captivating sight: a pair of legs in black pants and a black robe sprawled out on her king-sized bed. Her curiosity increased rapidly when she saw the familiar face of Qingcang, sound asleep.

Lina could not believe her eyes as she saw him sleeping peacefully on her bed. She observed the serene expression on Dongfang Qingcang’s face, in stark contrast to the usual scowl he wore. ‘Is this the same annoying man?’ Her eyes roamed over his form, taking in the toned collarbone, the silky hair, and the sharp jawline. He looked more relaxed than she had ever seen him.

Feeling an overwhelming urge to do something for Qingcang, Lina decided to make him more comfortable so he could sleep better. She refrained from touching him, which could cause him to wake up. Instead, she silently tiptoed to her closet, careful not to make any noise, and retrieved a warm blanket. She moved closer to him and draped it gently over his body, tucking it around him, extra careful not to disturb his slumber. Because he looked so gentle when asleep, her fingers itched to touch his hands and feel his skin’s warmth, but she resisted the urge, not wanting to wake him up.

As Lina turned to leave the bed, she turned back to look at the rare sight of Qingcang again, as it could be the last time that she could see him with that calm face. Her heart swelled with an emotion she could not identify as she gazed at him, grateful for this moment of closeness.

Quietly, Lina went toward her computer desk, feeling a newfound appreciation for Qingcang. She knew her feelings towards him were complex and confusing, but she did not care then. She was content to let herself be enveloped in the mystery of their temporary comradeship, knowing there was more to him than meets the eye.

Qingcang slowly opened his eyes, squinting as they adjusted to the room’s dim lighting. As his vision cleared, he saw Lina, her head resting on the desk with her arms folded underneath it; her face turned in his direction. She seemed to have been watching him sleep until she dozed off herself. He could not help but feel a twinge of curiosity at the sight of the young human.

‘This Silly Little Human assured me that she would keep watch, but she slept,’ Qingcang thought, almost shaking his head in disbelief.

Lina groaned softly and shifted in her gaming chair, her eyes still closed. “Pretty Eyes,” she moaned. “I didn’t sleep. I’m just resting my eyes because they’re dry today,” she explained, slowly opening her eyes and rubbing them with her palm.

Qingcang scoffed, realizing that he had underestimated Lina. He also noticed a blanket covering him, which he could have sworn he did not grab.

“Oh yeah! I have to make dinner. Now that you’re awake and saw that I kept my promise, I’ll go downstairs to the kitchen. I’ll tell you once I’m finished,” Lina said, stretching her arms while sitting on her gaming chair.

“Wait,” Qingcang suddenly said.

Lina yawned before raising her head to face Qingcang, surprised to hear his voice suddenly. “Mhm? What is it?”

“What were you doing while I was asleep?”

“Nothing, I just grabbed a blanket and tucked you in because I was afraid you’d get cold if you lay still.” Lina’s eyes were still bleary as she gazed at Qingcang, who looked deeply into her eyes in return.

The Moon Supreme arched an eyebrow and looked at Lina with a hint of surprise. He watched her leave the room, closing the door behind her and leaving him puzzled. ‘She…’ Qingcang was lost in thought. All his life, he had been trained to become a formidable leader of his tribe, and now someone was worried that he would feel cold.

Lina stood in the grand hallway of her home, marveling at the exquisite beauty of the classical ornaments that adorned the walls. The crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling illuminated the hall with its warm glow, casting intricate patterns on the marble floor. The air was thick with nostalgia as she gazed at the portrait of her high school graduation, which hung on the wall.

In the photograph, Lina wore a black robe and a scholar’s hat that matched it while clutching her diploma. Standing beside her old classmates, who were beaming with pride, she looked proud and happy. However, her thoughts drifted to the person who had taken her graduation picture, Yichen. She remembered how he had captured her beauty at that moment, and the memories filled her mind with more profound thoughts and memories.

But as quickly as the fond memories came, they were gone. Lina could not help but feel that something had changed inside her, like a switch had been flipped off. She no longer felt the romantic fondness she once had for Yichen, as if the misery of not being with him disappeared on his wedding night. All that remained was the pain of the aftermath of his betrayal.

“I’ve stopped feeling the emotion of romantic love. What happened to me?” Lina asked herself, puzzled by the sudden change in her heart.

Lina’s life had taken an unexpected turn a few days ago, and she had forgotten what it felt like to love romantically. She also discovered that this happened since she had lost the ability to hide the truth in her heart, and the realization of it being yanked away from her hit her like a ton of bricks.

‘Could it be because of Dongfang Qingcang? Did he seize my heart, and now I no longer have access to control it? What did he do to make me lose my heart to him? I’m sure that he doesn’t know this yet,’ Lina thought, pondering the vast factors that had changed her life since she had met the Moon Supreme.

As Lina thought about Qingcang, she grew more suspicious of him by the minute. She had to find out if he had something to do with her newfound lack of romantic love.

‘No matter what, I have to find out,’ Lina thought, sighing deeply, determined to uncover the truth. If her doubts were correct, she could not withstand Qingcang’s commands to tell him the truth because her heart’s deepest part was with him instead of herself.

Lina was distressed as she felt that her heart was no longer hers but under Dongfang Qingcang’s control. She could no longer lie to him if he demanded it or feel romantic love or anything related to her heart. She felt anxious, as if someone had snatched the most vulnerable part of her, the deepest part of her heart. He was lying in her bed now and could leave anytime, taking her heart with him. She knew that she would no longer feel like a normal human being again if that happened.

Lina had to take her heart back from Dongfang Qingcang.

Suddenly, Lina let out a yelp of pain, clutching her lower abdomen. “Ow…” she said, realizing with a start, ‘Oh no… I think my monthly cycle started! I almost forgot! I must hurry to the bathroom and put on a pad, or I’m screwed.’ She hurried to the bathroom.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Qingcang felt a sharp stab in his stomach. ‘Strange… I don’t see anyone attacking me. I feel this… pain in my… Tch…’ He gripped his belly. ‘Could it be?’ He raised his eyes. “That Silly Little Human, what did she do?”
