Lina’s Bold Move

Dongfang Qingcang leaned forward, his sharp eyes fixed on Lina as she recounted the details of her attack. “So, you were attacked,” he said, repeating her words slowly, “and then you passed out from exhaustion before you saw the portal in your room.” He wanted to be sure that he had understood everything correctly.

Lina slowly nodded her head in agreement. “Mhm. Correct,” she said, her voice delicate.

Qingcang furrowed his brow, his mind racing with questions. “Who could have done this to you?”

Lina shook her head, her long dark hair falling in a straight waterfall around her face. “I don’t know.”

Qingcang studied her momentarily, trying to gauge her level of sincerity. “You didn’t go through with ending your—” he began to ask, but Lina cut him off.

“No! I didn’t do it,” Lina exclaimed, her eyes widening in horror. “I’m usually cheerful, so I have no idea why I suddenly wanted to do that.”

Qingcang felt a sense of relief wash over him. ‘So, she isn’t that stupid. Good. But I have to keep my eye on her. Just in case,’ he thought to himself.

Lina’s adorable voice interrupted Qingcang’s thoughts, catching his attention. “Oh yes, one thing,” she said, her tone hesitant. “I’m tired, and I want to sleep. Where will you sleep?”

Qingcang crossed his arms over his chest and cocked an eyebrow, his expression stern. “Should I repeat myself?”

As Lina looked at him, she remembered all the times that Qingcang had told her that she belonged to him, that she had to sleep in the same room as him, and that she was not allowed to leave his sight. The memories flooded her mind, and she let out a loud screech, causing him to furrow his brows in annoyance.

“What?”

Lina looked away from Qingcang, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She could not believe that he was so witless. “I’m not going to share a bed with you, let alone live with you!” she objected.

Qingcang towered over Lina, his eyes burning with an intensity that made her heart race. She could feel the heat emanating from his body, his presence so overpowering that it made her feel small and insignificant. “Why?” he demanded, his tone fierce and commanding. She could see the muscles in his jaw clench as he spoke. “Do you want the dark beings to kill you while I’m not around? Let me remind you why you’re still alive,” he added, his voice low and dangerous.

Lina tried to speak, but her words came out as a stutter. “Yes, I know. B-but…” she faltered.

“But what?” Qingcang demanded, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at her. He wanted to know why Lina objected to sharing the bed with him.

Lina blushed and stammered, “B-but there is only one bed! And I only have one bed at home. You can’t sleep with me here or live with me!”

Qingcang raised an eyebrow in curiosity. “Why not?” His voice softened.

Lina grew more flustered. “Because!” Her cheeks turned even redder.

“Why?” Qingcang pressed, his tone growing more impatient.

“Because!” Lina repeated her answer, causing Qingcang to become annoyed once more.

“Whyyy?” Qingcang demanded again; his voice tinged with anger.

Lina hesitated, unsure of how to respond. She could feel the weight of Qingcang’s gaze upon her, his eyes boring into her like a pair of lasers. She knew she had to give him a reason, but she was too embarrassed to say what was really on her mind. “Because I…”

Qingcang rolled his eyes. ‘Is she trying to play a game with me?’ He scowled at Lina and spoke impatiently, his tone barely suppressing anger. “Tell me the real reason. Now.”

‘Oh no, not again!’ Lina resisted the urge to cover her mouth, knowing it would only give away her vulnerability to Qingcang. She knew that he would be able to tell that he was her weakness if she tried to hide it. “Because I’m not your wife, and to sleep and live together freely, we must get married first!” she blurted out, the words tumbling out of her mouth before she could think about them. The shock of what she had just said made her want to bury her head in the sand out of embarrassment. She had never felt she would be the proposing-to-a-man type, especially in such an awkward situation. To make matters worse, she had only met him a couple of hours ago.

Qingcang was taken aback by Lina’s ridiculous suggestion, almost choking on his saliva. ‘Marriage?’ he thought as his eye twitched in anger. He had already been offended when she poked him in the chest earlier after he told her that she should sleep with him in the same room for her protection. However, telling him that they should get married just so that they could live together temporarily was beyond an insult. ‘She, a Moon Queen?’ he thought, offended. ‘Does she think so low of me to marry her? I am the Moon Supreme, the strongest being in the three realms, and now I have to get married to her?’ He gritted his teeth. “Nonsense!”

Lina felt nervous about what she had said to Qingcang, knowing that he would disagree with her terms, but they were necessary. The tension in the room was noticeable as they glared at each other.

As they faced each other, the silence was only broken by the sound of their breathing. Finally, Qingcang spoke again. “I won’t get married to a lowly human!” he yelled arrogantly.

Lina stood her ground, unwilling to share a room with Qingcang if they were unmarried. “And I won’t sleep in the same room with you!” she yelled back.

The argument between Lina and Qingcang became increasingly heated, and neither of them was willing to back down. His face was stern as he stood his ground, refusing to budge an inch. She was equally determined, and her voice rose as she tried to convey her point.

Suddenly, Qingcang had had enough of the bickering and abruptly left the room by teleporting away in front of Lina. His dark aura, shaped like wings, dissipated into the air as he did so, leaving behind red shimmers that sparkled in the light.

Lina rolled her eyes at his dramatic exit. “So much for his nonsense of keeping me in his sight.”

In a way, Lina felt relieved to have told Qingcang what was in her heart and why she had rejected him. She was religious and uncomfortable staying in the same room with a man she was not married to. Although it was an awkward moment for her, she felt relaxed and empowered as a female. Besides, she was single, and Yichen had already found the love of his life, Jianmin.

Dongfang Qingcang flew in the distance, slicing through the wind as he passed further away from Lina’s home. His heart was heavy, and his mind was racing with a thousand thoughts, each vying for his attention. He was seething with anger and frustration over her sudden marriage proposal. He was caught in a dilemma, knowing that forcing her to always be with him would only complicate matters. She would cry and feel heavy emotions if he did, forcing him to bear them.

“She wants me to marry her,” Qingcang muttered under his breath, the words escaping his lips in a low growl.

Qingcang shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts, but it was useless. He knew he had no choice but to protect Lina and keep her safe from the dark beings lurking in every corner. Knowing they could harm her, he could not risk leaving her alone for a few hours.

‘I have no choice,’ Qingcang thought, clenching his fists as he flew faster and faster. ‘I have to be her full-time protector.’

As Qingcang flew, his frustration and anger boiled within him, threatening to consume him. He could not believe that his destiny had taken such a sudden turn. He increased his flight speed and yelled at the top of his lungs, feeling trapped by his suffocating future.

‘I’m a tyrant… destined to overthrow the Fairy Realm…’ Qingcang sneered. ‘Never in my life have I thought that I’d be bound to a weak human.’

Meanwhile, back at Lina’s home, she lay in her bed, her body wrapped in the warmth of the blankets. She was exhausted, her body aching from her constant struggles in the past few hours. She had decided to take a lazy day, one where she would do nothing but rest and recharge, and she was determined to see it through.

Her mind was lost in the blissful oblivion of sleep. As Lina closed her eyes and let herself sink deeper into slumber’s soft embrace, she felt relieved that Qingcang was not near her. The lack of his presence felt like a blessing to her, and she finally managed to fall asleep, breathing deep and rhythmic as she snuggled into the soft, fluffy pillows. Her mind was at ease, her worries forgotten for the moment.

In her dreams, she saw herself running through a field of flowers, the sun warm on her face and the breeze blowing through her hair. Lina felt a sense of freedom, of weightlessness, and for a moment, she forgot all her worries.

But Lina’s peaceful rest was short-lived by Qingcang’s return. The air in the room grew tense and heavy as his wing-shaped aura spread out, casting a dark, ominous shadow over the room. The black aura surrounding him pulsed with scarlet shimmers, giving him an otherworldly appearance.

Qingcang strode towards the bed, his eyes never leaving her as he assessed the situation. Lina was sleeping in the middle of the bed, her limbs sprawled out and her hair a tangled mess. It was clear she had no intention of getting up anytime soon.

Qingcang scowled, unable to believe the sight in front of him that he surveyed. He had been gone for only ten minutes, yet here was Lina, already fast asleep on the hotel bed. He scowled as he thought to himself, ‘This carefree girl… Doesn’t she understand the danger that she’s in? Now, she wants to sleep?’

With a deep sigh, Qingcang reached out his hand and gently nudged Lina’s cheek with his pointing finger. “Wake up,” he said in a firm but soft voice.

Lina stirred slightly, her voice thick with sleep as she murmured, “Leave me alone…”

Qingcang clenched his jaw tightly, struggling to keep his patience in check. “It’s time to get up,” he said, his tone clipped and annoyed.

Lina groaned and buried her face into the pillow. “Five more minutes…” she muttered, her body sinking back into the soft mattress.

Qingcang shook his head, trying to figure out how he would deal with Lina. He needed her to be alert and always ready, yet here she was, sleeping like a baby. He knew he could not afford to let his guard down, especially when his life was at stake. With fierce determination, he grabbed the blankets and yanked them off the bed to end her laziness. “No more sleeping,” he declared, his voice firm as he stood over her.

As Lina stirred and her eyes fluttered open, she was greeted by Qingcang’s steely gaze, his expression filled with unwavering resolve. She glared at him, her body still half-asleep and struggling to stay awake. “What’s your problem?” she demanded.

Qingcang replied harshly, “We have to open the portal now!” He had finally had enough of Lina’s idleness.

“Get out!” Lina shouted angrily, her patience with Qingcang at its end. She could not believe how forceful he was; the sudden burst of energy he brought with him only made her feel more tired.

“You!” Qingcang, shocked at Lina’s impulsive behavior, had never seen her so defiant before, and the fact that she now resisted him started to get under his skin.

Lina’s voice rose in frustration as she demanded, “Leave me alone!” Her irritation was palpable as she spoke, emphasizing each word with force, “You’re why I didn’t get any sleep last night! You kept me awake, and now I’m too tired! Besides, I told you I’m not your wife, so I won’t sleep next to you, let alone live with you! I’m so done with you ordering me around! Got it?” Her voice quivered with anger as she finished speaking.

Qingcang was taken aback by Lina’s sudden outburst. He had never expected her to talk back to him so boldly, and the fact that she was now openly defying his authority was a significant blow to his ego. He could feel his anger rising, but he took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. He thought to himself, ‘Then it’s decided…’ and took a deep breath, clearing his throat. “That’s about to change,” he said seriously, eyeing her closely.

“Huh?”

“We’re going to get married now.” Qingcang grabbed her hand and yanked her out of bed. Lina, taken aback, stumbled as she tried to keep up.

“What? Why?” Her heart rate increased.

“Don’t make me regret my decision,” Qingcang replied sternly, still holding Lina’s hand, indicating that he was about to take her somewhere.

Lina’s mind was racing with confusion and questions as she blinked in disbelief. She had never expected Qingcang to take her half-hearted words seriously. “Wait! Now?” She tried to slow down her breathing.

“Mhm.” Qingcang looked away.

Lina’s heart raced as Qingcang dropped the bombshell. She could not believe what she was hearing. She yanked her hand away from him and looked at him with disbelief. “Hold up! You’re telling me that I am going to get married to a random fairy that I just met?” Her eyes widened with shock as she tried to make sense of the situation. As she struggled to hold her laughter, she could not help but feel a sense of amusement. ‘I knew it!’ She tried to suppress a grin, but it was not easy. ‘He’s so in love with me that he agreed to marry me to spend time with me. What a genius plan of his.’

‘F-Fairy? This again!’ Qingcang fumed internally. He could feel his anger boiling over as Lina looked at him amusedly. He could not believe that she was taking the situation so lightly. On top of that, she still thought that he was a fairy.

‘He’s so gullible that he actually took my words seriously!’ Lina thought and snickered to herself, feeling satisfied as she could not resist the urge to tease Qingcang.

“Yes, unless you want to stay in danger.”

Lina’s laughter could not be contained any longer. She laughed so hard that her stomach hurt, and tears rolled down her face. The sound of her own laughter only made her laugh even harder. She could see the shock and anger in Qingcang’s eyes, but she could not help herself.

Amidst her uncontrollable laughter, Lina managed to utter some words, “I… never… thought… that… you’re… this… naive…” Her voice was high-pitched and filled with amusement as she struggled to contain her pleasure, almost choking in the process.

Qingcang’s frustration only grew as Lina continued to laugh. He could not understand how she could be so cavalier about the situation. He tried to remain calm and composed, but it was becoming increasingly difficult as she laughed. He clenched his fists. ‘For how long do I have to contain myself from killing her? I want to cut off her arms and legs.’ His lips twisted into a sneer, but he kept calm despite Lina’s laughter getting on his nerves. He was determined to hold back his anger and avoid doing anything he might regret later.

Lina, on the other hand, seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself as she entertained the idea of making a deal with Qingcang. ‘I mean, what’s the harm? He’s going away anyway, and if he wanted to harm me, he could have done so already,’ she thought as she laughed. “F-fine, but on two conditions,” she said, still giggling.

Qingcang, waiting for Lina to finish, crossed his arms over his chest impatiently and replied, “Go ahead.” He knew that he had limited patience for her nonsense.

Lina cleared her throat to ease the soreness her excessive laughter caused before she spoke, “We have to divorce on the day the portal opens before you return.”

Qingcang’s eyebrows furrowed, and he looked genuinely puzzled. “What’s a divorce?”

Lina was taken aback by his question. She could not believe what she was hearing. ‘Wait… he doesn’t know what a divorce is? Fairies don’t divorce?’ she thought to herself in disbelief. “Y-you don’t know?” she stammered in doubt, but Qingcang’s silence confirmed that he did not. She collected herself and explained, “It’s a legal separation between a married couple.” Inwardly, she was astonished, ‘So, he loves me so much that he wanted to marry me permanently?’

“Fine, even better.” Qingcang had a cunning grin that went unnoticed by Lina.‘I wanted to kill her anyway after I go back to my world and have found the way to break my bond to her emotions and life,’ he thought. “What is your other condition?”

Lina stood in front of Qingcang, her expression resolute. “We should sleep separately,” she said firmly, emphasizing each word.

Qingcang’s patience withered, and his tone grew more menacing as he spoke. “I’m going to repeat this, Silly Little Human,” he warned, his voice low and threatening.

Lina was not intimidated by Qingcang’s tone and remained aloof and disrespectful in her retort, causing him to be taken aback. “Yeah, yeah, I know; you’ve told me a thousand times that we should sleep together. But I want to remain pure for my real marriage when that time comes, alright?” she said, her voice laced with annoyance.

Qingcang raised an eyebrow in surprise and asked, “What do you mean by pure?” His tone was curious, but there was a hint of irritation in his voice.

‘Is he being serious right now? Doesn’t he know anything?’ Lina blinked. “Have you never had a woman before?”

“No.”

Lina almost gagged on her saliva at Qingcang’s response. ‘That explains everything… He’s so innocent.’ Trying to hide her shock, she asked him another question, “Well, you do know how babies are made, right?”

Qingcang stared at her, his arms still crossed over his chest, and Lina could see that the question did not amuse him.

“Wait, you don’t know?”

“The strong don’t need to know.”

Lina could not believe what she had heard. Qingcang was so clueless about the most basic facts of life, and she could hardly contain herself from laughing out loud. But then again, it was not his fault; he had been raised in a different world with different priorities. ‘I never knew that he is so… I don’t know… dense?’ Realizing that this was not a laughing matter, she cleared her throat and tried to be serious. “Fine, we’ll sleep in the same room, but you should not touch me in ways that could lead to… baby-making… Okay?” she said, trying to sound firm but failing to mask her unease.

Qingcang crossed his arms over his chest. “And what’s that?”

Lina hesitated for a moment, unsure how to explain it. “I-It’s best if you don’t know it; you might get traumatized by it… Do you agree with my terms?”

Qingcang scoffed, clearly uninterested in the subject. “Fine.” He gently pulled her hand. “Now, let’s go.”

“Wait!”

Qingcang was caught off guard and turned to face Lina with a scowl. She could see that her interruption unsettled him, but she had to make him understand the situation.

“What? Do you want to make a fuss about it?”

Lina stepped back. “No, you don’t understand, Pretty Eyes,” she said, trying to keep her tone light. “We must wait a few hours until someone is available to marry us, and we need two witnesses.”

Qingcang’s scowl deepened as he realized the gravity of the problem. “Then go find them!” he demanded in a low tone, clearly growing impatient.

‘Wow, I never realized his crush on me was so deep that he can’t wait to marry me,’ Lina thought as she blinked. She rolled her eyes at Qingcang’s impatience. “Geez… I will,” she said, “but it will take some time. In the meantime, do you want to take a bath? You haven’t relaxed since you got here, and it might do you some good.”

Qingcang snorted in response, eyes darkening. “Hmph,” he said, turning to walk away. ‘After my bath, I will tie up some humans to force them to cooperate with this marriage.’

Lina was left standing there, feeling bewildered by Qingcang’s behavior. “Uhh, was that a yes?” she called after him, hoping to get a clear answer. She sighed and shook her head, realizing that she was in for a long day.
